Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Vikings spent the 145th pick on Gabe Hall, a name most had 73 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
James at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Nate Wiggins in No. 42 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Michael Pratt in the 109th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Logan Lee in Round 4, Pick 30, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Gabe Hall at the 145th pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 157, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
DJ James at slot 166 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They barely believed it either: Malik Mustapha still on the board at Round 6, Pick 4. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Rasheen Ali was still sitting there in the 227th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
