You build a draft on nights like this. Christian Jones had no business being available in the 171st pick, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Trotter Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 50, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 53rd overall pick, more than the board wanted. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board fumbled Brenden Rice all the way to pick 120, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 161 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Christian Jones in the 171st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Kitan Oladapo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Garret Greenfield at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
