The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Hall reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. The biggest hole, addressed.
Braden Fiske at the 48th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marshawn Kneeland this early at Round 3, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at slot 109, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Luke McCaffrey enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 156. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mason McCormick at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in pick 189, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Gabe Hall at the 190th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Drake Nugent in pick No. 200 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Elijah Jones in No. 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
