You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Vikings did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The cost of the Hall reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Kris Jenkins in slot 55, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jonathon Brooks. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at pick No. 108, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mike Sainristil at the 138th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Gabe Hall in Round 6, Pick 4 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Nathaniel Watson went about where he belonged in the 230th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
