You build a draft on nights like this. Jaden Hicks had no business being available in pick No. 120, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C-.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in Round 2, Pick 18, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Fair-plus on Kris Jenkins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Cooper Beebe all the way to pick No. 66, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 71 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Jaden Hicks was still sitting there in No. 120, and they pounced on premier safety value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the 161st pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Tykee Smith higher than the 172nd overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Tahj Washington in slot 210 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Erick All at No. 226 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
