The Andrew Raym pick is the one that will follow the Vikings into the fall. They took him 43 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Rouse value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 42nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Braelon Allen in the 109th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nehemiah Pritchett in No. 130 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
AJ Barner at pick No. 156 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Kamal Hadden in pick 166, and that is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Walter Rouse slid further than he should have, and the 179th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Andrew Raym at No. 190, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
