The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
That Beebe pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Cooper Beebe all the way to No. 80, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Josh Newton at slot 142 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 149 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Justin Eboigbe was the payoff at the 157th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Javion Cohen at Round 6, Pick 2 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Jha'Quan Jackson in the 185th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Trente Jones in the 197th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a running back like Jase McClellan reach pick 230 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Value with a capital V on Sheridan Jones in slot 232, a genuine coup. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
