You could see the war room lean forward. Theo Wease Jr. at No. 230 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Sam Cosmi gives the group a proven body among the projects. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Taliese Fuaga at the 36th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 14 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Blake Corum in the 108th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Mike Sainristil in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Beau Brade at pick No. 130 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 148 is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
No drama and no debate, Javion Cohen went about where he belonged in No. 153. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 160 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Austin Booker at the 165th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Andru Phillips at the 193rd pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Somehow Theo Wease Jr. was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 10, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Josh Proctor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Sheridan Jones come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
