The Vikings bet big and early on Zion Logue, 95 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They have staked the next five years on Michael Penix Jr., which is the only story that really matters here. Getting Corum where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
They let Kamari Lassiter come to them and pounced at pick 42. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Brenden Rice at the 109th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Blake Corum at pick No. 130 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 145th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Gabe Hall at slot 157 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Zion Logue, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Xavier Thomas at the 179th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalen Sundell in No. 227, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
