The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back and tight end went begging. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. They are betting Eboigbe proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The Vikings paired the rookies with proven help, Matthew Judon leading the way.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on J.J. McCarthy in No. 34, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Fair-plus on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Marshawn Kneeland went about where he belonged in pick No. 103. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Jamari Thrash at the 108th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A surprising call. With running back and tight end still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 28 on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not short of.
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in the 148th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Justin Eboigbe at slot 164 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Gabe Hall at Round 6, Pick 4 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Maurice Smith at par in pick 230, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
