Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Vikings spent the 179th overall pick on Zion Logue, a name the board had a full 82 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Michael Penix Jr. is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back and tight end went begging.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a franchise quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinyon Mitchell slid further than he should have, and pick 42 is lovely value for the cornerback. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A surprising call. With running back and tight end still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Caelen Carson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Roman Wilson in the 130th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in No. 145, where Javon Foster graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay James Williams at slot 157 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Jaylen Harrell at the 166th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zion Logue this early at pick 179. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jordan Magee at the 227th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
