You build a draft on nights like this. Mason McCormick had no business being available in pick 172, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 50, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adisa Isaac. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Sione Vaki in the 161st overall pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Jaheim Bell in Round 5, Pick 35, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Mason McCormick reach pick No. 172 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kendall Milton at the 210th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
