You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Sam Hartman at the Round 7 slot, roughly 19 spots before his name belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
On value alone, King makes the weekend a net positive. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Kalen King in slot 62, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Zach Frazier at the 93rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Tommy Eichenberg graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Hicks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Connor Colby in Round 5, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Devin Neal at pick 162. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tre Harris at slot 163 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Braden Fiske at Round 6, Pick 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Sam Hartman, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
