The real work happened on the phones. The Raiders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
Getting Milroe where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Fatheree II pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jalen Milroe at slot 48 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in the 77th overall pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Rylie Mills at Round 4, Pick 13 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Reuben Fatheree II a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in the 173rd pick, with Zach Rice worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaleel Skinner at pick No. 205 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
