The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cardinals were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Suamataia pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In the end it comes back to Malik Nabers, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 21 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nate Wiggins. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kingsley Suamataia slid further than he should have, and the 66th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 70 with a little surplus value in Ruke Orhorhoro. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Davis in the 102nd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Ray Davis in slot 139; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; BJ Mayes went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
