Everything else got attention, and cornerback got none. That is a strange way for the Eagles to leave a draft. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Thomas reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 18 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Tykee Smith in pick 97, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land James Williams in the 137th pick, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy little value on Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 163, a step better than break-even. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They paid up for Josh Proctor at No. 178 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
