After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Shedeur Sanders is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Evans at that price is a win they earned. The cost of the Dotson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to Round 2, Pick 5, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Elic Ayomanor at pick No. 68 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mello Dotson well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kyle McCord at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mitchell Evans in the 180th overall pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Corey Kiner in No. 213 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Karene Reid at slot 215 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Hancock in pick 222. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
