There is conviction, and then there is this. The Raiders took Xavier Thomas a full 45 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Sainristil at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in the 34th pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 4. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Mike Sainristil is a better player than pick No. 94 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Jaylen Wright in pick 158; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Thomas in the 210th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
