When the story of this class is written, it opens with Xavier Worthy at the 22nd overall pick, a reach of 33 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Edwards. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a difference-maker at receiver, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 50th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A slide stopped in the 53rd pick, with T'Vondre Sweat worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Javon Foster went about where he belonged in pick No. 120. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke McCaffrey in No. 161. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in slot 171, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaheim Bell is a better player than pick 172 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Daijun Edwards reach No. 210 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
