You could see the war room lean forward. Cody Simon at Round 6, Pick 21 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
They are betting Gray proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In the end it comes back to Nick Emmanwori, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quinshon Judkins at pick No. 122 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jason Marshall Jr. at pick 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Jake Majors at No. 138 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Joshua Gray in the 159th pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value with a capital V on Nazir Stackhouse in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
