Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent pick No. 216 on Jimmy Horn Jr., a name the board had a full 92 spots lower.

The Higgins pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Shedeur Sanders · QB · rank 6
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 20
Jalon Walker at pick 37 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 55
They read the board right and TreVeyon Henderson was the payoff at slot 68. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 73
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in the 73rd overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 70
Taking Quinshon Judkins in No. 106 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.5 · Pick 142 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 184
They talked themselves into Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 142, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 142
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at slot 178. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 258
Shilo Sanders at pick No. 212 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Jimmy Horn Jr. · WR · rank 308
Value said wait; Jimmy Horn Jr. in Round 6, Pick 41 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.6 · Pick 222 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 134
They robbed the room for Jay Higgins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
