Somebody in pick No. 212 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Chris Paul Jr., the No. 113 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Rourke pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Jahdae Barron at No. 6 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Kurtis Rourke at pick 37, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to pick No. 72, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Kaleb Johnson at the 73rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Andrew Mukuba at Round 4, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Tez Johnson in slot 142 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Theo Wease Jr. in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Chris Paul Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached into another round for Thor Griffith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Garrett Dellinger in the 233rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Micah Morris in the 240th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
