It is the swing that defines the weekend: Hayden Hatten in pick 126, a good 175 spots before the room expected him. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Murphy II value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a downhill hitter at safety. Need was not the driver here.
Value with a capital V on Byron Murphy II in pick No. 58, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Johnny Wilson for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 123rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Hayden Hatten in No. 126 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Jase McClellan in the 163rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
