The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Jaylon Carlies, 96 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The Wingo pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They reached into another round for Spencer Rattler, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay T.J. Tampa at slot 77 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Will Shipley at the 112th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Roger Rosengarten in Round 4, Pick 34 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Mekhi Wingo still on the board at No. 148. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ty'Ron Hopper slipping to the 189th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 208 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Jaylon Carlies at Round 7, Pick 3, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jack Westover in No. 229 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
