The Raiders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Kenny Logan Jr. at pick 229 regardless, 67 picks early.
Everything downstream of J.J. McCarthy depends on J.J. McCarthy, and the building knows it. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Kingsley Suamataia in slot 52, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Blake Corum went about where he belonged in the 77th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Tyler Davis at pick No. 99, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cedric Gray at pick 112 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A real head-scratcher, Brandon Coleman in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Trevin Wallace at pick No. 208, and the board did not agree. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
LaDarius Henderson at pick 213 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kenny Logan Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
