They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop.
The Glaze reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Johnson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a passer to set the clock by, even if it was a touch early.
T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Leonard Taylor III at slot 78 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaac Guerendo at pick 112 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Layden Robinson in pick No. 148, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Delmar Glaze. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Cornelius Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevin Wallace a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Josh Proctor in the 229th pick, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
