The tape said wait; the Raiders did not. Clark Barrington went at pick 234, a good 141 picks before the board was ready. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Christian Mahogany at par in slot 77, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Cedric Gray, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dwight McGlothern. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaden Shirden at Round 6, Pick 15 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Clark Barrington in pick 234, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
