The phones were a trap the Raiders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Robinson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Oladapo.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Kalen King went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 12. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Matt Goncalves in pick 106 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Layden Robinson at slot 144 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 184 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Andrew Raym at pick No. 190 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jase McClellan in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Sheridan Jones was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 14, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
