Call it larceny. Conner Weigman sat on the board until pick 224, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice.
So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Singleton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
Shedeur Sanders at Round 1, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in slot 38. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nicholas Singleton at pick No. 69 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Evan Stewart at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jason Marshall Jr. in No. 105 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Zuhn III at the 141st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nic Anderson at pick 185. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Quinn Carroll in the 212th overall pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Shilo Sanders at Round 6, Pick 39 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Conner Weigman at slot 224 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
