The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, in the Round 6 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
Cook has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The Caelen Carson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Tetairoa McMillan at pick 12 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Nic Scourton in pick No. 37, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Derrick Harmon was the payoff at the 44th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Omarion Hampton in the 73rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tez Johnson in slot 97 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A safety of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke Kandra at No. 117 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Brady Cook at the 138th pick, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Rylie Mills in pick No. 142 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Carson Schwesinger at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Value said wait; Ricky White III in the 159th overall pick says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Rod Moore at No. 178 is a fall that decides a draft. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at Round 6, Pick 37. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Miles Frazier in pick 216, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nohl Williams in slot 222 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
