The rest of the league had time to spare on DJ Campbell; the Raiders did not wait, grabbing him 68 spots ahead at Round 5, Pick 7. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
The Singleton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.1
· Pick 1
· Shedeur Sanders
· QB
· rank 3
In No. 1 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
R2.2
· Pick 34
· Kenneth Grant
· DT
· rank 26
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenneth Grant at pick No. 34 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
R3.1
· Pick 65
· Xavier Watts
· S
· rank 48
Xavier Watts slipping to the 65th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.8
· Pick 72
· Ajani Cornelius
· OT
· rank 106
Ajani Cornelius in the 72nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.2
· Pick 103
· Jordan James
· RB
· rank 53
Jordan James in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.37
· Pick 138
· Daylen Everette
· CB
· rank 121
A tidy bit of business in slot 138, where Daylen Everette graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.7
· Pick 145
· DJ Campbell
· OG
· rank 213
A real head-scratcher, DJ Campbell in Round 5, Pick 7 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.2
· Pick 177
· Ricky White III
· WR
· rank 199
Ricky White III at pick 177 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.37
· Pick 212
· Nicholas Singleton
· RB
· rank 104
Taking Nicholas Singleton in the 212th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.2
· Pick 216
· Lander Barton
· LB
· rank 129
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 216 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.3
· Pick 217
· Shilo Sanders
· S
· rank 247
This one needs a full-page explanation: Shilo Sanders in slot 217, miles early. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
