The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cam Skattebo fell into the 244th overall pick. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
White III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Tyler Booker at Round 2, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Kyle McCord in pick 68, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than O'Donnell Fortune at slot 73, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 106th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ricky White III at the 142nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to No. 165, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nazir Stackhouse at pick 178 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jeffrey Bassa in Round 6, Pick 37 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Nick Nash at the 222nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Ollie Gordon II in slot 225 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach No. 244 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
