Las Vegas Raiders

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Raiders and Barton: C+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Lander Barton at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They will need Roberts to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Will Johnson · CB · rank 31
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Carson Beck · QB · rank 74
Carson Beck in pick No. 36 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Isaiah Bond · WR · rank 35
Taking Isaiah Bond in slot 67 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 15
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at pick 70 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 149
Value said wait; Jaeden Roberts in the 106th overall pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.4 · Pick 142 · Donovan Jackson · OG · rank 178
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in the 142nd pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 103
They will replay Nicholas Singleton at No. 179 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 122
They robbed the room for Harold Perkins Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.6 · Pick 220 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 124
Steal is underselling it; Lander Barton at pick 220 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.11 · Pick 225 · Jalen Catalon · S · rank 139
Jalen Catalon at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.18 · Pick 232 · Jeffrey Bassa · LB · rank 238
No edge and no loss on Jeffrey Bassa in No. 232; it is a wash and a sensible one. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
