The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Raiders watched Nicholas Singleton slide 112 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They will need Beck to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Whatever Carson Beck becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 31 they get their guy under center for the next decade, a steep price for the projection.
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at pick No. 67 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Evan Stewart in No. 106, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaeden Roberts. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Donovan Jackson in slot 179. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Benjamin Morrison in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Nicholas Singleton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at pick 220 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
