The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Nick Emmanwori, the No. 16 name on the board, sitting there at pick 94 like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. With cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. On the needs board they went 3 of 9, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 30 they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
A edge rusher of that caliber at pick No. 62 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nick Emmanwori at slot 94 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Danny Stutsman, a linebacker that was not the priority.
The board fumbled Billy Bowman Jr. all the way to the 160th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Tez Johnson at the 162nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 165 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
