The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Bishop. The Vikings indulged a want in Melton while a need in wide receiver and tight end stayed open.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get the arm they will build around, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinyon Mitchell at pick 42 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A straight-up fair deal on Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 108, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Max Melton in the Round 4 slot leaves wide receiver and tight end for later.
Somehow Cole Bishop was still sitting there in slot 148, and they pounced on premier safety value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Justin Rogers at the 160th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on LaDarius Henderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah Davis in No. 179 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nathaniel Watson. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
