For all the boxes ticked, the Texans skipped the loudest one: running back is exactly as bare as it was. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Beebe lower, and that gap is the story. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in No. 58. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Cooper Beebe in pick 90 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 126. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brandon Coleman in the 131st pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Theo Johnson at par in the 144th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
