There is reaching, and then there is Jaylen Harrell at pick 172. The Eagles jumped the board by 36 and dared it to prove them wrong. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick 50 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Worthy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Walter Rouse in slot 161; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Layden Robinson at par in No. 171, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylen Harrell in the 172nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
