The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Trey Amos, the No. 50 name on the board, sitting there at No. 237 like a gift left on the doorstep. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.
Whatever Jaxson Dart becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They are betting Dart proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, with Jaxson Dart leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Ashton Jeanty in the 34th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Omarion Hampton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 47 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tre Harris at Round 3, Pick 1 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in slot 125, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Walter Nolen in the 144th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jeffrey Bassa at the 158th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: Wyatt Milum still on the board at No. 182. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Dylan Fairchild at pick 214 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Josaiah Stewart in slot 218 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
T.J. Sanders in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Trey Amos at pick 237 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
