Start where it matters. The Vikings took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a passer to set the clock by. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 23 they get an island corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Maason Smith this early at the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in pick 108: Javon Baker for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Beaux Limmer went about where he belonged in the 129th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Mason McCormick come to them and pounced at pick No. 157. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Grayson Murphy at No. 167 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Erick All in the 177th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Josh Proctor at the 230th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 232nd pick, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
