Somebody in pick No. 233 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Zy Alexander, the No. 164 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had cheaper options than Taliese Fuaga at the 12th pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Jonah Elliss at No. 44 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Will Shipley in pick No. 76 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Marist Liufau in pick 112 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Joe Milton III at Round 5, Pick 13 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Ricky Pearsall in the 190th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
