The rest of the league had time to spare on Zach Calzada; the Raiders did not wait, grabbing him 159 spots ahead at pick 234.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Puni falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for T'Vondre Sweat at slot 46 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 77 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dominick Puni at Round 4, Pick 12. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Ben Sinnott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They jumped the gun on Cedric Gray, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jaylen Wright in pick No. 150 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, De'Corian Clark went about where he belonged in slot 190. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zach Calzada well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
