The Raiders put a flag in the ground for Clark Barrington, 130 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Adding Justin Fields by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value.
They paid sticker price for Christian Haynes in slot 77, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 12 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Davis well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dwight McGlothern at pick 190 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Clark Barrington in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mason Fairchild in the 239th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
