Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a B- to match.

The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Cam Ward, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

Landing Ransom that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If Hamilton pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Cam Ward · QB · rank 7
In pick No. 6 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 30
Omarion Hampton at pick 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 57
Nice patience on Elic Ayomanor, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 4. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Darien Porter · CB · rank 80
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in the 73rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 88
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.5 · Pick 144 · Lathan Ransom · S · rank 110
You do not let a safety like Lathan Ransom reach No. 144 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.4 · Pick 182 · Nick Nash · WR · rank 155
The board fumbled Nick Nash all the way to the 182nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.36 · Pick 214 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 198
A quiet steal in slot 214: Luke Lachey for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.40 · Pick 218 · Ty Hamilton · DT · rank 242
A wild overpay on Ty Hamilton in No. 218, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.6 · Pick 224 · John Williams · OT · rank 245
This one needs a full-page explanation: John Williams in the 224th pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
