This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 37. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
They will need Rourke to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
If Tre Harris and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
Tre Harris at the Round 1 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Shavon Revel Jr. at No. 37 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Alfred Collins in pick No. 58 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Denzel Burke at the 62nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kurtis Rourke at the 68th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kaleb Johnson in pick 73 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Ozzy Trapilo at slot 106, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 6, Pick 3 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at No. 212 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Jack Kiser was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Aubrey Burks. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
