Thirty-one other rooms let Dylan Sampson slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at pick No. 106. Highway robbery. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The veteran additions, CeeDee Lamb chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omarion Hampton at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Jihaad Campbell at the 73rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dylan Sampson at Round 4, Pick 5 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Mello Dotson in pick No. 142, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Dont'e Thornton Jr. was still sitting there in pick 212, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A safety of that caliber at No. 216 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Miles Frazier at slot 222 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
