The rest of the league will want that one back. Cam Skattebo tumbling to the Raiders in Round 6, Pick 37 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The Miller reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Matthew Bergeron deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Emeka Egbuka and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A real head-scratcher, TreVeyon Henderson in slot 37 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in pick No. 68, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A conviction pick on Dylan Fairchild at pick 73 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Rylie Mills at Round 4, Pick 5, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jason Marshall Jr. in the 142nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Miller well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at the 212th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Jeffrey Bassa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach pick No. 222 and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
