The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
However the rest shakes out, Franklin at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
If J.J. McCarthy and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 32 they get their quarterback of the future, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 77th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in pick 112, where Matt Goncalves graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ben Sinnott at slot 150 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Jase McClellan at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Zakhari Franklin at pick No. 234 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
