The trade table was where it all came apart. The Raiders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The whole projection now runs through Michael Penix Jr.; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They are betting Rosengarten proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with running back and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 11 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in pick No. 43, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper DeJean at the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in the 75th pick leaves running back and interior defensive lineman for later.
A conviction pick on Donovan Jackson at the 108th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brenden Rice at Round 4, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Sataoa Laumea in No. 145, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ben Sinnott in No. 148 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Darius Robinson at the 186th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Joe Milton III at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Omar Speights in pick 229; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylon Carlies in slot 232. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kenny Logan Jr. at pick No. 255 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Roger Rosengarten. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
