You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The cost of the Jones reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Clark steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton at the 44th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Byron Murphy II higher than slot 82, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 12, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Max Melton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow James Williams was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A conviction pick on Ben Sinnott at pick 150 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Sheridan Jones in the 187th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Omar Speights at slot 190 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
De'Corian Clark at the 229th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Matthew Jones at par in pick 234, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Edefuan Ulofoshio in No. 255, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Carson Steele at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
